Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

For Serving:

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream (optional)

Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced apples to the skillet, and then sprinkle them with 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Stir well to mix the apples and spices, then cook for about 5–7 minutes until the apples soften and start to caramelize, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.

Make the Crumble Topping: In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup rolled oats, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until the mixture is crumbly and combined. The texture should resemble coarse crumbs.

Assemble the Dish: Evenly distribute the apple filling in the skillet, ensuring it’s spread out. Then, sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.

Bake: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.

Serve: Once baked, remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream, and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
