Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup fresh blackberries (plus extra for garnish)

1 tablespoon fresh sage, finely chopped

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons blackberry syrup or juice

1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.

Incorporate Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Gently fold in the blackberries and chopped sage, being careful not to mash the berries too much.

Chill the Dough: Cover the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Preheat the Oven: While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Shape the Cookies: Once the dough is chilled, use a tablespoon to scoop out portions of the dough. Roll them into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, blackberry syrup or juice, and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk or syrup if necessary.

Glaze the Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle the blackberry sage glaze over the top and garnish with a few fresh blackberries and a sprinkle of finely chopped sage.

Serve: Enjoy your warm blackberry sage glazed cookies with a cup of tea or coffee!
