At the heart of Turtle Caramel Cake lies a unique combination of flavors and textures that work harmoniously together. The cake is traditionally made with three main components: chocolate, caramel, and pecans. The chocolate cake serves as a rich base, offering a deep and satisfying flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of caramel. The caramel not only adds a gooey texture but also provides a rich, buttery flavor that enhances the overall experience. Ingredients

1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup chocolate chips

Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Beat together until fully combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Then carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

Add Pecans and Chocolate: Gently fold in the chopped pecans and chocolate chips.

Bake the Cake: Evenly distribute the batter among the prepared pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare for Layering: Once cooled, place the first layer of cake on a serving plate. Drizzle with a part of the caramel sauce, then follow with a sprinkle of pecans and chocolate chips.

Repeat Layers: Place the second cake layer on top and repeat the drizzling and sprinkling process. Add the final cake layer on top.

Frost the Cake: Drizzle the top of the cake with remaining caramel sauce and sprinkle with any leftover pecans and chocolate chips for decoration.

Serve and Enjoy: Slice the cake, serve with a dollop of whipped cream if desired, and enjoy your decadent Turtle Caramel Cake!
