500g minced beef

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece ginger, minced

2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped

1-2 green chilies, slit (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

½ teaspoon turmeric powder

½ teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)

Salt, to taste

1 cup water

1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)

Fresh coriander leaves, for garnishing

Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions
 

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds until fragrant.

    Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onions to the skillet and sauté until they turn golden brown. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for an additional 2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.

      Cook Tomatoes: Stir in the chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes break down and the mixture thickens, approximately 8-10 minutes.

        Spice It Up: Add the coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes to toast the spices.

          Add the Beef: Introduce the minced beef into the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and sauté until it is browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.

            Simmer: Pour in the water, mix all the ingredients well, and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

              Incorporate Peas: If using peas, add them halfway through the simmer time, allowing them to cook through.

                Final Touches: Check and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Before serving, sprinkle fresh coriander leaves on top for added flavor.

                  Serve: Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side. Pair the qeema with rice, naan, or parathas for a delightful meal.
