Originating from East Asia, edamame has been enjoyed for centuries, particularly in Japan, where it is often served as a traditional appetizer or snack. The term "edamame" translates to "stem beans," referencing the way the pods grow on the plant. Edamame is harvested when the soybeans are still young and green, providing a tender texture and a slightly sweet, nutty flavor.

Ingredients

2 cups shelled edamame (fresh or frozen)

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Edamame: If using frozen edamame, cook according to the package instructions until tender. If using fresh, boil water and add edamame; cook for about 3-5 minutes until bright green and tender. Drain well and set aside.

Sauté Garlic: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant and golden, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Combine Ingredients: Add the drained edamame to the skillet. Sprinkle with sea salt and black pepper, stirring to coat the edamame with the garlic-infused olive oil. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add Cheese and Lemon: Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the hot edamame and drizzle with lemon juice. Toss everything together until the cheese is melted and evenly distributed.

Garnish and Serve: Transfer the garlic Parmesan edamame to a serving bowl and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or snack.
