Ingredients

For the Turkey Meatballs:

1 lb (450g) ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the Marinara Sauce:

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) whole peeled tomatoes, crushed

2 teaspoons dried basil

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for a little heat)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    Make the Meatball Mixture:

      - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper.

        - Mix well with your hands or a fork until just combined (do not overmix).

          Form the Meatballs:

            - Roll the turkey mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. You should get about 12-16 meatballs.

              Bake the Meatballs:

                - Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

                  - Bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned.

                    Prepare the Marinara Sauce:

                      - While the meatballs are baking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

                        - Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

                          - Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

                            - Add the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you like it spicy, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.

                              Combine and Serve:

                                - Once the meatballs are done baking, transfer them to the marinara sauce and let them simmer gently for an additional 5-10 minutes to soak up the flavors.

                                  - Serve hot over spaghetti, with garlic bread, or as a meatball sub!
