Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Extracts: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Mix: Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully incorporated, but don’t over mix.

Shape Cookies: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of the dough and roll into balls. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet, leaving space between each ball as they will spread while baking.

Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Make Buttercream Frosting: In a medium bowl, beat the softened butter until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar. Mix until combined then add milk and vanilla extract. Beat until the frosting is smooth and creamy. If desired, add food coloring and mix until evenly tinted.

Frost Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cooled, use a spatula or piping bag to generously frost each cookie. Top with colored sprinkles if desired.

Store and Enjoy: Allow the frosting to set for a bit before storing the cookies in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for several days or refrigerated for longer freshness.
