2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)

For Assembly:

4 slices of fresh pineapple, grilled

4 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)

4 burger buns (preferably brioche)

Lettuce leaves

Sliced tomatoes

Sliced red onions

Additional teriyaki sauce for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce:

    - In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and minced garlic. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

      - If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with water, add it to the sauce, and stir until thickened. Set aside to cool.

        Make the Burger Patties:

          - In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef or turkey, breadcrumbs, green onions, minced garlic, soy sauce, black pepper, and salt. Mix until well combined.

            - Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help it cook evenly.

              Preheat the Grill:

                - Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan, heat it over medium heat on the stovetop.

                  Grill the Patties:

                    - Place the burger patties on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip them. Brush each patty generously with teriyaki sauce and let them cook for another 4-5 minutes. If using cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute to melt.

                      Grill the Pineapple:

                        - While the burgers are cooking, place the pineapple slices on the grill. Grill for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side until they have grill marks and are caramelized.

                          Construct the Burgers:

                            - Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill. On the bottom half of each bun, lay down a lettuce leaf followed by the teriyaki-glazed burger patty, a grilled pineapple slice, tomato slices, and red onion. Drizzle with extra teriyaki sauce if desired. Cover with the top half of the bun.

                              Serve:

                                - Serve the burgers immediately with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
