Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 cup milk

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup fresh blueberries (or frozen, if out of season)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Zest of 1 lemon (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

Preheat and Prepare:

Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.

      Mix Dry Ingredients:

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar until evenly combined.

          Combine Wet Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Ensure the butter is not too hot to avoid cooking the milk.

              Combine Dry and Wet Mixtures:

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently stir until just combined; the batter will be lumpy. Fold in the blueberries carefully to avoid breaking them.

                  Butter Swimming:

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. The batter will be quite thick but should spread out during baking. Take the remaining melted butter and drizzle it evenly over the top of the batter (yes, it really swims in butter!).

                      Bake:

Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

                          Prepare the Glaze:

While the biscuits are baking, whisk together the confectioners' sugar, milk, and lemon zest (if using) in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency as needed by adding more milk or sugar.

                              Glaze and Serve:

Once the biscuits are done baking, remove them from the oven and drizzle the glaze over the hot biscuits while they are still warm. Allow them to cool slightly before cutting into squares or wedges.

                                  Enjoy:

Serve these buttery, glazed blueberry biscuits warm for breakfast or as a sweet snack. They are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
