Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Marinara Sauce:

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 teaspoon dried basil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

For Assembly:

4 sub rolls or hoagie buns

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, oregano, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined but do not overmix.

Form the Meatballs: Using your hands, roll the mixture into approximately 1-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

Heat the Marinara Sauce: While the meatballs are cooking, heat the marinara sauce in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the dried basil and red pepper flakes, if using. Let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors.

Combine Meatballs and Sauce: Once the meatballs are done, carefully add them to the marinara sauce and stir gently to coat them nicely.

Prepare the Sub Rolls: Slice the sub rolls or hoagie buns down the middle, without cutting all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet.

Assemble the Subs: Spoon a generous amount of the meatball and marinara mixture into each sub roll. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt the Cheese: Place the assembled subs back in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the subs from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve hot!
