3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup dark chocolate chips (60% cocoa or higher)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and smooth. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

      Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

        Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

          Mix dry and wet ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, using a spatula or the mixer on low speed. Mix until just combined—do not overmix.

            Fold in chocolate chips: Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
