4 slices of rustic bread (like sourdough or ciabatta)

1 cup fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced

1 large tomato, sliced (preferably heirloom)

½ cup fresh basil leaves

2 tablespoons balsamic glaze

2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon pesto (optional, for an added flavor boost)

Prepare the Ingredients: Lay all sliced components – mozzarella, tomato, and basil – on a clean surface. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the tomato slices and season with salt and freshly cracked black pepper.

    Assemble the Sandwich: Begin by placing a slice of rustic bread on a cutting board. Layer half of the mozzarella slices on the bread, followed by the tomato slices and fresh basil leaves. If using, spread a thin layer of pesto on the other slice of bread, then place it on top to complete the sandwich. Add the remaining mozzarella and repeat for the second sandwich.
