Ingredients

1 loaf of rustic Italian bread

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced

2 ripe tomatoes, sliced

1 cup fresh basil leaves

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade) for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter and minced garlic. Mix well until fully combined.

Slice the Bread: Cut the Italian bread in half lengthwise. Spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of each bread half.

Toast the Bread: Place the bread halves, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the edges start to turn golden.

Add the Toppings: Remove the bread from the oven. Layer the slices of mozzarella cheese, followed by tomato slices, on top of each half. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste.

Bake Again: Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for another 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Add the Fresh Basil: Once out of the oven, top the cheesy bread with fresh basil leaves.

Drizzle with Balsamic Glaze: Finish by drizzling balsamic glaze over the top for a sweet and tangy kick.

Slice and Serve: Slice the bread into pieces and serve warm as a delicious appetizer or side dish.
