Ingredients

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk (110°F or 43°C)

⅓ cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)

1 large egg, room temperature

1 tsp salt

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tsp mixed dried herbs (such as oregano, thyme, and rosemary)

¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until frothy.

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead on low speed with a dough hook attachment for about 5 minutes.

First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Herb Butter: In a small bowl, mix together melted butter, minced garlic, dried herbs, and fresh parsley. Set aside.

Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball and place them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan or on a lined baking sheet.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes, until puffy.

Preheat Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Brush and Bake: Brush the tops of the rolls generously with the garlic herb butter. If using, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top. Bake for 18-22 minutes, until golden brown.

Final Touch: Once out of the oven, brush the rolls with any remaining garlic herb butter for an extra layer of deliciousness. Let them cool slightly before serving.
