Ingredients

6 slices of thick-cut bread (such as brioche or challah)

3 large eggs

1 cup milk

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced)

1/2 cup pecans (chopped)

1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the muffin pan)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin with butter and set it aside.

Prepare the Bread: Cut each slice of bread into small cubes (about 1 inch). Spread them evenly in a large bowl.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Add Apples and Pecans: Fold the diced apples and chopped pecans into the bread cubes. Then pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.

Fill the Muffin Tin: Divide the soaked bread mixture evenly among the muffin cups, packing it down slightly to create a compact layer.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the centers are set.

Cool Slightly: Remove the muffin tin from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Gently run a knife around the edges of each cup to loosen them before flipping the tin upside down to release the cups.

Serve: Serve the French toast cups warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar if desired.
